She's beautiful, she's sassy, and she requires Alto's magical energy to survive. How does she get that energy? Kisses, bien sûr! (Well, mostly, it's a magical contract, but the kisses are a definite perk for Alto, wouldn’t you agree?).
Now, think about it. A seemingly ordinary student bound to a powerful demon. What could possibly go wrong? Plenty, I tell you! The first episode quickly establishes the premise: Alto is now entangled in a world of magic, danger, and, ahem, demonically-charged lip-locking.
The animation is quite vibrant, wouldn't you say? Especially Vermeil’s design! Her fiery red hair and golden eyes practically pop off the screen. The battle sequences, while brief in the first episode, hint at the action-packed potential of the series.
And the comedy? It's there, mes amis! Alto’s flustered reactions to Vermeil’s forwardness are genuinely funny. It’s that classic "awkward protagonist finds himself in an absurd situation" trope, but it's done well. The little moments, like Vermeil adjusting to the modern world, are quite charming too. She is quite interested in learning the ways of the modern world.
The episode does a solid job of setting the stage. We know Alto's struggling, we understand Vermeil's immense power (and her… unique… energy source), and we get a glimpse of the potential threats they'll face.
