Okay, so you’ve totally gotta hear about this drama I’ve been binging. It’s called "The Scholar Who Walks In The Night." Sounds cheesy, right? I thought so too… but trust me on this one. Hooked.
Basically, we’re talking Joseon era Korea. Think beautiful hanboks, ridiculously intricate hair, and…vampires. Yup, you heard that right. Vampires! I know, I know, stay with me!
So, our hero, Kim Sung-yeol (played by the ridiculously handsome Lee Joon-gi – I mean, seriously, look him up!), is a scholar who, well, spoiler alert but not really, becomes a vampire. But he’s not your typical blood-sucking monster. Oh no. He’s a righteous vampire, dedicated to fighting the evil, power-hungry vampire Gwi (Lee Soo-hyuk is scary good in this role!).
Think of it as a historical drama meets supernatural thriller meets…romance? (Of course there’s romance! What Korean drama would be complete without it?).
And let me tell you, the romance is complicated. He’s got this whole “I must protect you because I’m a dangerous creature” thing going on. You know, the classic noble sacrifice trope? Gets me every time! Is it predictable? Maybe. Do I care? Absolutely not!

There's also this girl, Jo Yang-sun (Lee Yu-bi), who dresses as a boy and sells books. She gets caught up in all the vampire drama because, well, that’s just how these things go, isn’t it?
Seriously, the plot gets twisty and turny. Secret identities, hidden agendas, forbidden love… it’s all there. Did I mention the costumes are gorgeous? Because they are. I'm practically drooling over some of the hanboks. I want one!

Gwi is probably one of the best villains I’ve seen in a while. He's not just evil for the sake of being evil (though he is very evil), he's got a whole backstory and motivations that, while twisted, make him a compelling character. Plus, his eyebrows alone deserve an award! Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating… a little.
So, should you watch "The Scholar Who Walks In The Night"? YES! If you're looking for a drama with a good balance of action, romance, and historical intrigue, with a dash of the supernatural thrown in for good measure, you’ve found it. Prepare to be hooked, shed a few tears (or maybe a lot!), and maybe even develop a slight obsession with Lee Joon-gi. Don't say I didn't warn you! And honestly, who doesn't love a good vampire story, am I right?
